Today I’d like to blog about something that has really weighed on my mind… Bear with me, as it is a bit lengthy!
On Christmas Eve I received an email from a company that I’ve been working with for 15+ years.
Going out of business- 50% off! ---------SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!
In a panic, I call them to hear the same friendly voice of the kind man that I have placed my orders with for years.
I asked “Is it true!?”
“Yes” he replied.
As I began to tell him how sorry I was he explained “I’m 51 and I’ve worked here since I was 16.” At this point, I am just SICK. Not only will all of these people be losing their jobs, but I will have to re-establish a new relationship and find another company with such great customer service to work with.
Which leads me to wonder…. Why does a company close after 78 years?
My guess is people have lost touch with the value of printing. PEOPLE! What happens when hard drives crash!? When the cloud dissipates? When you lose that jump drive? When CD’s are no longer?
Yes, house fires CAN happen but compare the odds! PRINT PRINT PRINT!
How many of you can honestly say that you’ve never sat around looking through old albums, photos, and scrapbooks? That your mom never busted out your baby pictures to show to your new significant other to try to embarrass you!?! I’m willing to bet most of you have done this.
When you purchase prints from a photographer, you’re not only helping that photographer. You’re helping the businesses that they order from to pay their employees to feed their families. How’s that for a feel good? Before you ask another photographer for “a disc so that you can do what you want” please give this a thought.
Furthermore, half of the photography clients that get said “discs” throw them in a drawer and forget about them, or worse, LOSE THEM!
I’m leaving you with this… PLEASE print. Shop local. Support others in your community.
